In this time of divisiveness and occasional loss of hope, when we seem to be reevaluating our values, I urge everyone to try to remember the Golden Rule:
Treat others the way you’d like to be treated.
This morning I mentioned on FB that some now miss the feeling of hope, now that it seems to be gone…how we know we had it because of how we are feeling now… I feel worse when people tell me not to worry because I’m old enough (76) that Social Security & Medicare changes probably won’t affect me. But what about my children & grandchildren? What about my friends and those I care about? What about all those I haven’t met yet – or those less fortunate? Since I’m white & Christian I have less “threat” – but my whole message in all of my children’s books is to be kind & have consideration for others… What is happening to hope?
The mother of one of my kid-fans wrote to me:
“Sherrill, don’t change because of what is happening.. I love your books for just the reasons you mentioned, you are what our children need right now. We can’t change how adults feel, but with your stories, you help us to teach children how to grow up having kindness for others.. Your words are powerful, they give me hope!”
So that gives me hope!!! And that hope includes hoping that everyone will try to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”…
Please treat others the way you would like to be treated…
