Please check out my Children’s Plays at Lazy Bee Scripts www.lazybeescripts.co.uk

They are written for elementary school classrooms, and each child has at least one line… (no “trees”, standing on stage!)  They are co-authored with my daughter, elementary school teacher Kerry Gallagher.

Thank You, Ashlyn, my Kid Reviewer!

I love it when I get messages from my Kid Reviewers!  Thank you Ashlyn Rainn!

Ashlyn has been a fan for a very long time – and her mother assures me my books helped her learn to read!

Ashlyn loves my books!

Author Bethany Edwards mentions performing one of my Children’s Plays in Egypt!

I had an unexpected response to my post on the Multi-Cultural Children’s Book Day blog about winning contests…  If you didn’t see it, the link is MCCBD Post on Winning Contests

I got a lovely comment note from author Bethany Edwards:

“This is amazing! Thank you so much Sherrill S. Cannon for sharing your insight! I submitted two picture books to the Lee & Low New Voices Award and am already dreaming big! I am an international teacher and have actually performed your “We Have Character” play with my students in Egypt as part of our character focused assembly. What fun to connect with you here. Will continue sharing your books, and definitely sharing this article on all of my social media channels. If I had a dollar for every time a teacher told me “I have trouble finding quality diverse books”, I could pay for all of us in this group to enter all the contests you listed.”

Many of you may not know that I am also the author of seven published and internationally performed plays for elementary school children.  My daughter Kerry Gallagher is the co-author.

The plays have been produced in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as well as Australia, Austria, Botswana, Cambodia, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, New Guinea, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (so far).

All the plays are designed to use all the children in a classroom (or combined classrooms) and each child has at least one line…one time to shine! (although the teacher may always allow a shy child to have a friend share that limelight…)

They are all available at www.lazybeescripts.co.uk

A Penny For Your Thoughts

Today’s sad news reminded me of a poem I wrote almost 50 years ago…
So I thought I’d share the poem, and also announce that I am now under contract for a book of poetry for release in 2018…
The book is A Penny For Your Thoughts. It’s an attempt to put feelings into words…
PRECEDENCE
The U.S. is stocking its arsenals,
While Russia keeps pace with its arms –
An earthquake has leveled Mexico,
And Israel’s sounding alarms –
People are starving in Africa,
And also in New York, I fear…
But the Cowboys are beating the Redskins –
And Duke’s undefeated this year.
Hundreds of children are missing –
Another airplane has crashed –
Mary’s aborted her pregnancy –
It’s doubtful our marriage will last –
I think that I may be dying,
But you neither hear nor care…
For the Dodgers are winning the Pennant –
And the Angels haven’t a prayer.
                                                   …Sherrill S. Cannon
The book is a collection of many years of writing poetry. As a Valentine, I have always been preoccupied with love in all its many forms, and I have also found great joy in writing poetry. As a teacher, I used poetry to help counsel many troubled teens and friends, and have continued this pattern throughout the years.  A Penny For Your Thoughts combines all my loves into a book full of feelings…

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys – “Gonna have to read it again…”

Heeding the advice of an amazon top reviewer, who suggested always “liking” a review that someone has taken time to write for me, I decided to go back and look at and “like” some of the reviews.

I was delighted to find this one for Peter and the Whimper-Whineys, which I am now sharing:

“I received this book last week and I had wanted to get a review up before now but life gets in the way so here it is now. I thought this was a really cute book. I had my 9 yr old read it which he saw it was from the same author as Manner Man and he grabbed it immediately. He read it and when he was done I asked him if he had liked it. He said, “Not as much as Manner Man. But I’m gonna have to read it again to make sure.” Now that should be a review for you. He has to read it again to make sure he doesn’t like it as much as another book. I would say that’s a definite like. Now if only Ms. Cannon had one about tattle-telling.”

This was a verified review from an “amazon customer”, so I thank you if you are reading this!!!

And thank you to Gisela Hausmann for the suggestion!!
