Award-winning children’s author, Sherrill S. Cannon, announced the release of her poetry book, “A Penny for Your Thoughts” which received a great review from Reader’s Favorite. This loving book of one-hundred fifty-four poems is simply the most beautiful book of the heart and anguish, exploring love and friendship. Thoughts of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her sensitive sonnets are shadows in some of Cannon’s poems. The lovely style of blending and weaving words to evoke feeling is well done. The poetry touches on topics of age, youth, nature, and love with deep emotion such as “My Tree” and the following excerpt from “Frozen Wasteland”:
“…But you came to me and took me
From the Winter of my heart─
Where I lived before I met you,
And where nothing new could start─
To a land of youth and beauty,
Where I never shall grow old…
For you took my hand and led me
Into sunshine from the cold.”
The poetry exceeds her wonderful children books that hinted through the Dr. Seuss homage of rhyme delivering gentle lessons with deeply felt emotions of humanity. KJ of Kalpart Illustrations, who has created the illustrations and book covers of Ms. Cannon’s nine award-winning Children’s books, does an emotionally stirring cover with a black, gray and white sketches which interchange the feelings with the words.
Sherrill S. Cannon grew up in the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC. She is the original Eloise! She has received over fifty awards for her children’s books distributed globally on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. This current diversion into poetry in the fall of 2017 has won two Gold Medals – Feathered Quill and Reader Views – as well as a Specialty Poetry Award and is a Pinnacle Achievement winner.
Early in her career, her brilliant children’s book, The Magic Word, was evaluated and recommended by Professional Book Scouts. Book scouts were asked by Traditional Publishers to review books that decision-makers will be interested in taking advantage and consider buying the rights to the books. They reviewed thousands of Children’s books published from 2011 to 2016 and only 22 books were graded A and were invited to the international book fair event. Ms. Cannon’s books will appear at the 2018 Bologna international book fair.”
Victoria Wagner Ross is an award-winning author of Blue Speaks Eternally, a voice for the ocean and its creatures. “A Must for every childrens’ book basket February 28, 2018
Once in a while my friend’s 4 yr old son will spend a few hours with me at my house while my friend takes care of a lengthy To Do list in a fraction of the time it takes with a 4 yr old in tow. Not having kids myself, I have always been a bit awkward with children. I wasn’t sure if ‘Mon Vieux’ would screech his heart out for the entire afternoon or not, the first time his Mom bade him to stay and didn’t take him with her. He did settle, eventually. When ‘eventually’ was no longer in the future, but in the present, it was cause for quiet celebration. Mon Vieux took an inventory of the basket I had put things I remembered liking when I was 4. Reading books was one of my most favorite things, and it still is. I instantly saw a kindred spirit as he gathered up My Little Angel and Manner-Man and installed himself under my desk next to my feet. THANK YOU Sherrill!”
