The Magic Words are Please and Thank You…
Here’s a little reminder from The Magic Word:
There is a magic word
To use when you’re in need,
So give a smile and shout it out:
The magic word is please!
There are some other words
That bring a magic touch:
When someone does nice things for you,
Say, “Thank you, very much!”

Thank you very much to all of you…
Thank you for the lovely Press Release for A Dime is a Sign…
Acclaimed children’s author Sherrill S. Cannon has written her second book of poetry and is once again attracting praise.
Reviewer Jamie Michele for Readers’ Favorite writes in her 5-star review, “A Dime is a Sign: Poems of Love and Loss (Feelings Into Words)by Sherrill S. Cannon is a compilation of poetry and the second book of verses that Cannon has released, preceded by A Penny For Your Thoughts.
As a former teacher, many of Cannon’s poems have helped counsel troubled teens and friends over the years. Her lyrical poetry includes free verse, blank verse, haiku, and sonnets, while some poems are just plays on words.
Michele’s review continues: “A Dime is a Sign is such a beautiful piece of work. My favorite is It Doesn’t Matter, which speaks of an unrequited love but does so in a way that discharges the usual somber tone that a poem about loving someone and not being loved back generally delivers. Instead, Sherrill S. Cannon is somehow able to make it sound like it is okay – it’s perfectly fine – because, “For in my heart, you have a part … And with my love, you help me live.” The best way to describe how Cannon’s poetry makes me feel is with the use of the word ‘inspired.’ Her heart and soul are poured out onto each page and drip from each line, and still, even when the stanza reads in a lilt of restraint, Cannon elevates the message and inspires the heart.”
As for the book’s title, “A Dime is a Sign,”a psychic medium told Cannon that if you find a random dime, it is a sign that someone you have loved and lost is thinking of you.
“Once again Sherrill has shown her literary chops, and why she is recognized as one of the best authors around. We are so proud to be her publisher,”said Robert Fletcher, CEO of Strategic Book Publishing and Rights Agency.

The words of love, loss and anguish in Sherrill Cannon’s thought provoking poetry book A DIME IS A SIGN definitely touch the heart. Her imagery and thought provoking words calm the soul. When I feel tired, lonely, peaceful, or upset, I can turn to this lovely collection of poems to set my mind free. Some of my favorite phrases include:
“A simple droplet…A singing babbling brook…A mighty cascading waterfall..is my love.”
“Cradled in your arms is my crescendo.”
“My thoughts become my eyes and give me sight.”
“I’ll dream my daydreams of you each day, and keep my memories of yesterday.”
“Angry rain…making water webs on screens…screams of pain.”
The poems remind me that we are creatures of nature, and our feelings for one another resemble the struggles found in nature. It’s a pleasure to know that I can read a poem a day in this lovely book that will put a smile on my face and reassure me that love embraces loss.

I’m delighted to share the following review by Robert Mukiibi, who is an author in Uganda. He expressed interest in my poetry, and offered to review it.
From Robert Mukiibi – 11/4/18 – A Penny for Your Thoughts– Uganda
I got the book yesterday and its beautiful and carefully written. Thanks!
I have read a few pages already and I like “Lullaby” and “I Think of You”…so far. Great craft and use of rhyme.
Now I have read the book and every page had incredible literary power that I couldn’t help but affix my attention to the voice that carried sweet soft sounds of realities nurtured by the beauty of imagination, passion and insight.
I enjoyed the book because it is understandable. The simplicity of poetry makes it even more genuine and gives it a chance to be likeable.
You are blessed with a profound usage of words that resonate with the reader’s expectations or experiences. I think that’s what poetry is all about, “to convey, portray or paint an Idea, to uplift souls, and to light the inner world of readers.”
So I thank him for his thoughtful review, and I am hoping he will be able to release his own book of poetry in the future…

“A Dime is a Sign” by Sherrill S. Cannon is another keeper! The book is a collection of eclectic poetry formats all focusing on putting ‘Feelings Into Words’ as noted by the subtitle. There is something special about Sherrill’s poetry that takes the reader out of their regular day and into an inward journey that heals old feelings from their past. This book contains poems about love and loss, organized into three sections: Love and Friendship, Of Related Emotions, and Of Heartache and Anguish. These parts represent the tossing of a dime (Heads, spinning, and tails).
I loved the metaphor as I chose poems to read and decided to toss the coin, sometimes by spinning the pages to see which poem I got. This made the read fun and thought provoking as again and again I would get poems that connected with my current mood or situation! For example, I was working on a small speech for my daughter’s upcoming wedding, and the landing page was on ‘Love is Love’ which embodied the message I wanted to convey to the bride and groom…so I made it a part of my speech and will read it citing the book and author of course, during the toast or even the ceremony.
It is hard, as usual with Cannon’s poems, to pick a favorite but the one below is one that stands out as the contrast of simplicity and depth, hand in hand with words and feelings, is evident immediately:
You sent me a poem
(I think it was you)
Describing a moment
That I never knew…
A tentative feeling
Of love in the air
Portrayed with an image
Of quiet despair
As the portentous moment
Revealing love’s joys
Was disrupted by sounds
Of a motorbike’s noise…
And the now broken moment
Reduced to a page
Of unrevealed passion
That never could age…’
“A Dime is a Sign” by Sherrill S. Cannon is a collection of feelings straight from the author’s heart that will touch all readers. I recommend it to all poetry lovers, but especially recommend it to anyone searching for the words behind their feelings, words that describe unforgettable lived moments and words to heal hearts. A Five-Star collection to keep!
This is such a very special moment for me, and my heart is smiling. I was informed that the wedding is today…and to think that she took the time to write and post such a lovely review before she left for the wedding…and how special I feel to know that my poem will be part of that very blessed occasion… means more than I can say.
