The words of love, loss and anguish in Sherrill Cannon’s thought provoking poetry book A DIME IS A SIGN definitely touch the heart. Her imagery and thought provoking words calm the soul. When I feel tired, lonely, peaceful, or upset, I can turn to this lovely collection of poems to set my mind free. Some of my favorite phrases include:

“A simple droplet…A singing babbling brook…A mighty cascading waterfall..is my love.”
“Cradled in your arms is my crescendo.”
“My thoughts become my eyes and give me sight.”
“I’ll dream my daydreams of you each day, and keep my memories of yesterday.”
“Angry rain…making water webs on screens…screams of pain.”

The poems remind me that we are creatures of nature, and our feelings for one another resemble the struggles found in nature. It’s a pleasure to know that I can read a poem a day in this lovely book that will put a smile on my face and reassure me that love embraces loss.

I love that she has chosen several phrases, not just poems, which have meaning to her – since the concept of this book is to put feelings into words.  A companion volume to A Penny for Your Thoughts, I hope that this book of poetry will also speak to many of you.
