The Golden Rule Coloring Book Wins 2nd Award – A Finalist in the Prestigious Feathered Quill Awards

So thrilled to share that The Golden Rule Coloring Book has won a Finalist Award in the Poetry category in the prestigious Feathered Quill Literary Awards.

– Covers: front cover – gorgeous colors / a literal rainbow and the images of each child are adorable. Back cover – a lot of words for the back cover make it hard to read, but all text there is correct and explains well the subject of the book

– Content: this is an excellent way to teach kids the Golden Rule. Not only is the rhyming story fun and easy to read, but by allowing kids pages they can color, they not only learn but participate

– Editing, spelling, grammar – clean, good job

– this book takes on the scary issue of bullying and teaches kids in a light-hearted creative way how to deal with tough things.

This is the second award for The Golden Rule Coloring Book, having also received an Honorable Mention in the Royal Dragonfly Awards for Children’s Activity Books.

Previous Note from eBook Manager…

I found a previous note from my eBook Publisher about a program several of my children’s ebooks were included in, and thought I’d take a look at updated numbers.

The ebooks were part of a program donating children’s ebooks to teachers in underprivileged areas… This note was from 5 years ago, so I looked at the updated numbers today (even though I don’t think the program is still happening…).

The top ebooks shared most often, with updated numbers:

The Magic Word – 10,243, Manner-Man – 4607,  Gimme-Jimmy – 2512,

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys – 1336 and Santa’s Birthday Gift – 1472

Note received:  “Hi Sherrill.

No, you are not competing with yourself. Teachers get copies for the kids in their classes and Amazon donates Kindles for those kids. The large numbers mean that the teachers find your books to be written well enough to use in the classroom. If anything, I think it speaks to how good your books are. If you have an outlet for promoting your titles, you could use those large numbers to let people know well received your titles are in the program. I don’t know if you can use the …program name without permission, but you could say that x number of copies of your books have been donated to underprivileged school children around the world and are used in classroom settings. I think that would be OK to say without violating any copyrights. If you add up all the free give-a-way copies from the last year or so for all your titles, it should be a pretty high number.  Just a thought.”

My granddaughter loved the book My Little Angel and when my daughter bought the coloring book for her for Christmas, she was in heaven. The story is the one she remembered, but now she gets to color the wonderful drawings herself.

What I love about this coloring book is how your child can read a story and color. On the left side of the coloring book is the story. On the right side are the pictures to color. That makes it fun for your child. I gave this to my eleven year old who has Marfan’s Syndrome because he is going into the hospital for an operation. I know it will entertain him because he can read the story and color. The story is all in rhyme, so that makes it extra fun. —Review by Linda Weaver Clarke

EditionVerified Purchase:  In years past, poetry was written and enjoyed by many, today there is the idea, including among some professors, (who I have heard say, they don’t understand poetry.) That insinuates that a good or great poem is something that is indecipherable to most.
I am not one of them, as with great poets, such as Maya Angelou, Robert Stevenson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, there is a story in the poems, a sense of place and emotion flowing through the verses. ‘A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS,’ by Sherrill S. Cannon is one such book.
It is rich in emotion, stories flow through the verses, and tales of love and loss are ripe within its pages. It is a glorious book that should be savored from start to finish and this reader feels that one would have to be devoid of life experience not to find many in this book that do not strike a cord deep inside of them.
Ms. Cannon’s poetry takes on the issues of grief, dying, being the object of idolatry, as, in her poem Pedestal, love, loss, and letting go. A magnificent journey through life.
A few of those that struck a deep chord in me was ‘Pedestals,’ That tells us the tale of someone who is stuck upon a pedestal and cannot become truly human for fear of losing their love. ‘The Real Me,’ that speaks of the little part of oneself that is seldom if ever shown to anyone. ‘To See The Future,’ shows us all that we might lose if we could see the future. For we would no longer be living in the present, the joy, sorrow, love, grief, beauty, and glory of life would be forever shaded with the knowledge of what’s to come. ‘Does Memory Last,’ a question each of us may ponder, when we lose a loved one or are facing death. ‘Old Woman,’ is a poignant look at the young woman that exists in all, under the veil of wrinkles and aging.
There were so many poems in this book that touched cords deeply within me, as to bring smiles to my lips, joy to my heart, thoughtfulness to my mind and grief inside of me.
A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS is an astoundingly, wonderous trip through the thoughts, life, and emotions we all go through in life.
In the pages of this book, everyone will find something that will help them grow or understand themselves better. I highly recommend it.
