I just received a fun “reminder” for a review of Gimme-Jimmy, thanks to Carolina DuFault and the 2016 Multi-Cultural Children’s Book Day event!

Have you read the review of “Gimme-Jimmy” by @CarolinaDuFault ? ‪#‎ReadYourWorld‬ You can read it here at Review of Gimme-Jimmy

“Gimme-Jimmy is the perfect book to be used during bullying prevention week at school, at home or any time you need to go over social skills/manners with children. And I mean children of all ages!

There is always one (or more than one) student in the classroom who needs help socializing with other children, or needs help learning how to be kind to others. Teaching with the example is one way to do it and this book introduces real life examples.

What I liked about this book is that the setting and characters are school related, so it is easy for children to identify themselves with the story. The ways in which the main character shows his behavior and manners are very realistic, and what happens to him as a consequence of his behaviors it is very funny indeed.

Since the book is written in rhyme and the vocabulary is easy for children, it is fun for a read aloud or per reading. The illustrations show diversity with children of different race. The family setting encourages the participation of the male role as a guidance, giving a break to the female role from the teaching duties.

Gimme-Jimmy is a very good book to keep in all classrooms libraries and at home for future reference.”

Introducing Cassie, my Teen Jr. Reviewer!!

cassiePlease meet Cassie, my Teen Jr. Reviewer, who has reviewed my last three books. She was also in one of the illustrations in My Fingerpaint Masterpiece as a teenager spectator.

Since her niece is a 5-yr-old, she is able to read to her as well…so I get the benefit of the opinions of both age levels! (Fortunately, they both agree!!)

“Hi Sherrill – This is my review:

The Golden Rule by Sherrill S. Cannon is a great book that teaches kids to treat others how they would like to be treated. It has a lot of great points for kids to learn. I thought that it was cool how Sherrill made it sound like a game, the way she had kids searching for the ruler and then they realized it was the “Golden Rule”. It’s an all around cool book for kids of all ages to enjoy. Any age can get valuable lessons from this book and run with it! Sherrill, I loved reading the book, and keep up the awesome books!!!!”

Thanks, Cassie

Thanks, Cassie

Not only is Cassie another of my Cure JM kids, requiring monthly medical infusions, but she also suffers from Juvenile Arthritis, and has hearing loss in one of her ears. In spite of all of this, she has a wonderfully positive and inspirational attitude.

Ashlyn, my Kid Reviewer

Ashlyn, my Kid Reviewer

Please meet the first of my “Kid Reviewers”, 5-yr-old Ashlyn, who has been a big fan since she was quite little! This is her review of The Golden Rule, as posted by her mother:

“Ashlyn Rainn is not old enough to write her own review but she is smart enough to voice her opinion. “The Golden Rule” according to Ashlyn, is an awesome book. She loves the book and the meaning behind it. She was so excited getting to the climax of the story. She couldn’t wait to find out what the golden rule was. She got thrilled by the end of the book and then started pulling all her other Sherrill S. Cannon books out for me to read to her because those are her favorite books of all time. Thank you Sherrill for writing awesome books. This is the newest book just released by author Sherrill S. Cannon. The Golden Rule or any of Sherrill’s other books, please shop through the link. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Cure JM. (http://sbpra.com/curejm)

Her mother Donna also posted:

“❤❤❤Ashlyn goes nuts over Sherrill S. Cannon books. They are the best children books by far for teaching valuable lessons without the child really knowing that they’re learning. I love these books.”

This relationship started when Ashlyn was just 3-yrs-old

“We all love your books and think that you are a fabulous author, the next Dr. Seuss. We love you. You gave us a 3 year old child that wants to read books with us. Until we had your books, she would not sit down to read any book. Now Ashlyn comes up and begs us to read the books to us. Thank you again.”

And later…

“How do you do it? This book is GREAT! I love it and the illustrations are

As well as..

“That book Mice & Spiders & Webs…Oh My! Is fantastic. Ashlyn loves all of your books, but got this one and like the rest, she can’t get enough. We love your books…”

Awesome Review by Dellani Oakes for Mice and Spiders and Webs…Oh My!

Two Awards for Mice and Spiders and Webs...Oh My!

Two Awards for Mice and Spiders and Webs…Oh My!

I am thrilled to share this 5-Star Review from Dellani Oakes, prolific popular author, for Mice & Spiders & Webs…Oh My!

Mice & Spiders & Webs….Oh, My! by Sherrill S. Cannon is a charming look at misunderstandings. Rosemary declares she’s no longer going to school because they are going to be getting a mouse. She’s also sure there will be spiders because the teacher mentioned a web. To calm her down, her mother agrees to talk to the teacher the next day. What follows is a humorous look at how children can misinterpret what we say, and the importance os clear communication.
As with all Sherrill Cannon’s books, the subject is treated with warmth and compassion. No one makes fun of Rosemary for her misunderstanding and fear. There is a non-judgmental humor to help reveal the message: Talking to our children is so important, as is doing our best to find out the truth, or fallacy, of every situation.
Mice & Spiders & Webs…. Oh, My! is very readable for an adult. It would be fun to share with a child over and over again.
The bright and colorful illustrations by Kalpart, will engage a child’s attention time and again.

Thank you, Dellani.

Thank you, Rita, for the Comments from your Kiddos

I love getting messages about comments from children about my books.  A friend (and fellow-author) who runs a Day-Care commented:

Their very favorite is Gimme Jimmy and are so obsessed with this hand growing…lol…

They wanted me to send you a message. It goes like this…. “Dear Awesomest Author, we love your books so much, especially Gimme Jimmy, when you have time, can you write your next book about Farm animals on a Dairy Farm?, we would really like that!!”… Love Rita’s daycare kiddos 🙂

(I had to tell them that my next book will be The Golden Rule, but perhaps they would like their names in the book?)

Gimme-Jimmy will be a part of the 2016 MultiCultural Children’s Book Day Event in January.
