Last weekend I had a wonderful reading/signing fundraising event at a Preschool in CT, where 40 adorable “good listeners” had their own book to read. After the event, the children left the room chanting “No more whining! No more crying!” I certainly hope it lasts!!
I love to write poetry, so I’ve decided to share my poetry on my blog occasionally. This poem accompanies Santa’s Birthday Gift, for I believe that Santa is the Spirit of Christmas:
The Spirit of Christmas
Santa’s the spirit of Christmas,
The longing to give in your heart,
The wanting to make others happy,
As God gave us Love at the start.
For God’s Love was born at Christmas,
All wrapped in a small holy Boy.
So we want to give on His birthday,
To share all our love and our joy.
You’re never too old to love Santa,
Just open your heart and believe…
That Santa brings gifts for Christ’s birthday,
And it’s better to give than receive.
… Sherrill S. Cannon
I just returned from signing 275 copies of Santa’s Birthday Gift for 3 schools and a store in the Philadelphia PA area. I also did lots of readings and decided that the most fun of being an author is reading books to the kids!
- Linda Weaver Clarke has selected Sherrill S. Cannon for her Author Interview and Book Give-Away for the week of Dec. 6-13. Both Santa’s Birthday Gift and Peter and the Whimper-Whineys will be featured, and a signed copy of each will be available for a drawing from all readers submitting comments about the books. Please check out Linda’s blogsite at www.lindaweaverclarke.blogspot.com to see her recent interviews as well. (Thank you John Kremer for the Marketing Tip!)

There are lots of complaints about whining children, so as a former teacher and grandmother of nine I offer the following suggestion: Frequently it helps for children to be read fun-stories that illustrate the unpleasantness of bad behavior and ways to correct it. Sometimes children don’t understand how annoying the sound of whining can be. My latest children’s book, “Peter and the Whimper-Whineys” by Sherrill S. Cannon is a story of a little rabbit who does nothing but whine. This rhyming book should be read with alternating normal voice and whining voice, according to the character speaking. Children learn that Whimper-Whineyland is not a fun place to be, not just for all the whining and crying that goes on but for all the other unpleasant character traits exemplified!!! The book can be found on amazon.com where there is the read-inside-the-book feature, as well as on bn.com. I hope that this might help your child as well as it has helped my children and grandchildren!
