The Magic Word by Sherrill S. Cannon is almost ready!

The Magic WordMy newest rhymed book is almost ready to be released to the printers.  Here is a sneak preview of the cover!

I hope that my readers will love this book as much as they have loved Peter and the Whimper-Whineys and Santa’s Birthday Gift.  In case you are wondering, this little rhyme will give you a clue:

There is a Magic Word

To use when you’re in need

So give a smile and shout it out

The magic word is Please!

Sneak Peak at Elisabeth of “The Magic Word”

The Magic WordI thought it was time to share with my fans a sneak peak of the main character of my pending new rhymed children’s book, The Magic Word.  Elisabeth is a little girl who has to learn the magic word “Please”.  I hope that most of you have children who already know this word, but perhaps do not know how magic it is.  Consideration for others is so important, and “Please” and “Thank You” can never be overused!  I hope that this book will become as popular as Santa’s Birthday Gift and Peter and the Whimper-Whineys, and that it will help children everywhere learn the importance of good manners and thinking of others.  What a wonderful world this would be!

Santa’s Birthday Gift by Sherrill S. Cannon – What Santa Gives, not Gets…

Enjoy the gift of ChristmasI love to write poetry, so I’ve decided to share my poetry on my blog occasionally.  This poem accompanies Santa’s Birthday Gift, for I believe that Santa is the Spirit of Christmas:

The Spirit of Christmas

Santa’s the spirit of Christmas,

The longing to give in your heart,

The wanting to make others happy,

As God gave us Love at the start.

For God’s Love was born at Christmas,

All wrapped in a small holy Boy.

So we want to give on His birthday,

To share all our love and our joy.

You’re never too old to love Santa,

Just open your heart and believe…

That Santa brings gifts for Christ’s birthday,

And it’s better to give than receive.

Whine Stopper!
Whine Stopper!

There are now signed copies of Peter and the Whimper-Whineys available on eBay!!!

Also, please check out my new pages!  I have added one for Book Signings, since I had a wonderful event yesterday, August 11th, at the Shady Brook Farm in Yardley PA.  I have added another page for further news about upcoming events, as well as information about some of the other children’s books I have in progress.  I wanted to leave my Main Page dedicated to my published books, for the benefit of new readers (and hopefully fans!)  Stay tuned!

My second rhymed children’s book, Peter and the Whimper-Whineys, was released in April.  It is designed to help parents cope with whining and complaining children. Peter is a small rabbit who does nothing but whine. His mother warns him that if he keeps on whining and crying, he’ll have to go live with the Whimper-Whineys.  His nocturnal adventures convince him his mother was right! If only he can get back home… The critique editor for this story wrote: “I cannot imagine any parent or guardian not wanting to read this book to their child!…Parents everywhere applaud you!”

Most of my books try to teach something, like good manners and caring for others.  Santa’s Birthday Gift is an attempt to include Santa in the meaning of Christmas. (After I read a story of the nativity to my young granddaughter, she looked at me and asked “But where’s Santa?”  The editor who critiqued this book wrote: “What a cute story! I know there are many stories about how Santa came into the picture, but this is a delightful idea behind the gifts at Christmas.” The story is best for ages 3-10, to be read to children who still believe in Santa!

I am a mother of four and a grandmother of nine. I have been writing poetry since before I could write! (My mother wrote down the poetry I wrote as a four-year-old.)  I have written six other rhymed children’s stories, as well as eight rhymed musical plays for elementary school children (which have been performed in the Philadelphia PA area since 1995.)  I love to write.  My friends and family ask me if I think in rhyme and meter, and I have to admit that sometimes this is true!
