Santa’s Birthday Gift by author Sherrill S. Cannon is a book I wish my kids could have had as children.
Two Christmas stories are combined in one beautiful little book that is sure to become a traditional read at Christmas time for many families.
The author has created a delightful story that is both poignant and magical, keeping the real meaning of Christmas alive and answering the questions, who is Santa Claus and what does he have to do with the real meaning of Christmas?
This rhyming book takes Santa on an adventure from a simple toy maker to a star follower. He follows the star right into Bethlehem where he meets the baby Jesus. When he sees that gifts are being given to Jesus, he wants to give his most precious gifts too – toys! When he discovers something magical about his Christmas sack, he vows to bring toys to every child in the world in honour of the newborn King.
This book is a Reader’s Favorite Winner and an Indie Excellent Finalist and one you are sure to enjoy with your children each and every Christmas.
I just returned from signing 275 copies of Santa’s Birthday Gift for 3 schools and a store in the Philadelphia PA area. I also did lots of readings and decided that the most fun of being an author is reading books to the kids!
Authors of Children’s Books Strategic Book Group has added a new Fan Page for Authors of Children’s Books! Please check it out!! You can find me there, with lots of my author friends. Don’t forget that Christmas is coming, and books make great gifts!!!

I had a wonderful booksigning at Barnes & Noble in Vestal NY on Tuesday 9/21. It’s such fun to share my books with others – and it was nice to meet a few fellow local authors at the same time! “Peter and the Whimper-Whineys” was very popular, and I was pleased that there was also renewed interest in “Santa’s Birthday Gift”!
There are now signed copies of Peter and the Whimper-Whineys available on eBay!!!
Also, please check out my new pages! I have added one for Book Signings, since I had a wonderful event yesterday, August 11th, at the Shady Brook Farm in Yardley PA. I have added another page for further news about upcoming events, as well as information about some of the other children’s books I have in progress. I wanted to leave my Main Page dedicated to my published books, for the benefit of new readers (and hopefully fans!) Stay tuned!
My second rhymed children’s book, Peter and the Whimper-Whineys, was released in April. It is designed to help parents cope with whining and complaining children. Peter is a small rabbit who does nothing but whine. His mother warns him that if he keeps on whining and crying, he’ll have to go live with the Whimper-Whineys. His nocturnal adventures convince him his mother was right! If only he can get back home… The critique editor for this story wrote: “I cannot imagine any parent or guardian not wanting to read this book to their child!…Parents everywhere applaud you!”
Most of my books try to teach something, like good manners and caring for others. Santa’s Birthday Gift is an attempt to include Santa in the meaning of Christmas. (After I read a story of the nativity to my young granddaughter, she looked at me and asked “But where’s Santa?” The editor who critiqued this book wrote: “What a cute story! I know there are many stories about how Santa came into the picture, but this is a delightful idea behind the gifts at Christmas.” The story is best for ages 3-10, to be read to children who still believe in Santa!
I am a mother of four and a grandmother of nine. I have been writing poetry since before I could write! (My mother wrote down the poetry I wrote as a four-year-old.) I have written six other rhymed children’s stories, as well as eight rhymed musical plays for elementary school children (which have been performed in the Philadelphia PA area since 1995.) I love to write. My friends and family ask me if I think in rhyme and meter, and I have to admit that sometimes this is true!
