7-yr-old Addie
JM is a rare disease and its exact incidence is unknown. Estimates from various studies suggest that between 1 and 5 children per million will develop this disease each year. Approximately 1,000 new cases of JM are diagnosed in the United States every year. JM begins in childhood or the teen years. The average age of onset for JDM is between six to seven years old; 25% are age 4 or less. JPM usually develops several years later. JM affects girls twice as much as boys. Once a child is diagnosed with JM, it is always considered to be the juvenile form, even if the patient continues with the disease into adulthood.
Barnes & Noble - Oct. 18th
I was asked to return to our Vestal NY Barnes and Noble yesterday for another 2-hour signing session in the children’s department. This was to coordinate with another Educator Event at the store, with a session with Starr LaTronica, discussing “what books are new in Pre-K-4th and how to use them in your classroom.”
I had the honor of meeting Ms. LaTronica at the conclusion of her presentation
According to this Chicago Press Release she has just been elected President of the ALSC for 2013-14. “Starr LaTronica, youth services/outreach manager, Four County Library System, Vestal, N.Y., has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).”
I was able to give her copies of my four books, and she has promised to evaluate and share with the area libraries. What a wonderful opportunity to share my books with children!
And very thrilling to me is that my books are now on display and available in the Barnes & Noble in Vestal, NY. This has been a long-time ambition, and I am so pleased that they are now part of the store!

Educator Event at Barnes & Noble
I was part of a wonderful “Featured Author” Event for Educators at the Barnes & Noble in Vestal, NY yesterday evening, Oct. 15th, and have been invited back for another Event this coming Thursday, Oct .18th, from 4-6! Gimme-Jimmy was the big “winner” last night, helped by a buyer who told me she had all of my other books and wanted copies of the new one for her grandchildren!

Lazy Bee Scripts
I just received a note from Lazy Bee Scripts that there are six new productions scheduled for my plays (co-authored with my daughter Kerry Gallagher), two for “Have You Seen My Little Lamb?”, two for “We Have Character”, and two for “When You Wish Upon a Star…fish”. They will be performed in Cambodia, Australia, Ireland, UK and USA! Such fun to think of children performing our plays in so many places… Three additional plays are available as well: “King’s Spell”, The Wonderful Word of Weather” and “ABC December”.
